From San José you will be accompanied by a bilingual naturalist guide. During the journey you can see coffee plantations. We will head towards the mountains of the Braulio Carrillo National Park covered in a dense forest of clouds and beautiful waterfalls visible from the road. Just after Braulio Carrillo National Park, we will stop for a typical Costa Rican breakfast, juice, coffee, eggs and the popular “Gallo Pinto”.
After breakfast, we will go through banana plantations, where the guide will explain the process of growth and export of this fruit. After the land part, we embark on the most exciting part of this tour: the boat trip to the Tortuguero National Park. There we will learn about nature and our humid tropical forest, covered by some 29,000 hectares.
Tortuguero is one of the most important spawning sites of the green turtle, while its forests and canals are home to many endangered mammals, such as sloths, monkeys, coatimundis, agoutis and manatees. There are also abundant birds, such as toucans, trogons, egrets, herons and aninghas, as well as crocodiles, turtles and colorful butterflies, including the blue morpho.
At about noon we will enjoy a delicious typical buffet lunch to please the hungriest of appetites. After lunch we will take a walk through the town of Tortuguero, where we will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the city and its inhabitants. On the way back, we took the land transport again to return to San José.
